Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
According to Jim Wallis (God’s Politics - Why the Right Gets it Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It, Harper Collins 2005), Martin Luther King Jr. was a “great practitioner of real social change” who understood that “you don’t change a society by merely replacing one politician with another”, but by changing wind; or, in other words, by crating a positive critical mass needed for a change to take place. As we remember today (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 21) him today, it is good to think about his relevance today. What is the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. in 2008? What social evils of today call for as assertive approach as did the racial segregation in the US in the sixties? Let’s reason together.
